Let me introduce myself, my name is Rebecca Slonaker, I am an abstract artist and instructor.
My story begins when I was just knee high to a curb. I have always been drawn to the process of creativity. I remember building mud sculptures and my mom keeping them until the dried out and crumbled. Fast forward through my teen years and early twenties, I had given up on creativity for a wilder side of life. Then in 2001 I became sober and started Art and Design School, I was going to be a kitchen and bath designer. That came to an end in 2010 when I lost the person who was my everything and that was my grandma. The only way I knew how to deal with losing her was to pick up a paintbrush and paint. I started to paint like never before, then one day in May 2011 I found myself applying to show with a gallery. I don’t remember much from that day except I applied, then I received a phone call that would change my life. I had a meeting with the gallery and four hours later they signed me to show. That was May 24, 2011, ten months before the year anniversary of my grandma passing. I knew in that moment that in her gaining her angel wings, she in turned became my guiding light leading me to the creative path I was meant to be on. In 2017, I rented a studio/gallery of my own and I have continued to grow as an artist.
